Frequently Asked Questions

Connect a Music Service

ShoutOut needs access to a music service to play full-length songs. Go to the Profile tab and connect either Spotify Premium or Apple Music. Without a connected service, shoutouts will still play but songs will play as 30-second previews.

Using Spotify

Tap play and ShoutOut will launch Spotify automatically and return you to the app. Spotify Premium is required for full-length songs — Free accounts will hear 30-second previews.

Using Apple Music

Apple Music plays directly inside ShoutOut with no extra steps. An Apple Music subscription is required for full-length playback.

Apple Sign-In & Private Email

When signing in with Apple, you may choose to hide your real email. Apple provides a private relay address (e.g. abc123@privaterelay.appleid.com) instead. This is normal and secure. If someone wants to add you as a recipient or collaborator, they should use this relay address — you can find it on your Profile tab.

Recipients vs Collaborators

Recipients are the people a playlist is made for — they can listen but not edit. Collaborators can add tracks and record shoutouts. Owners have full control: they can edit the playlist, manage collaborators and recipients, and delete it.

Recording Shoutouts

Open a playlist, tap a track, then tap "Add Shoutout". Set the timestamp where you want your voice to play, record your message, and save. The shoutout will play automatically at that moment during playback.
